Congratulations!
We are excited that you are considering celebrating your wedding at Grace Episcopal Church. We have a beautiful facility, provide exceptional service in a central location, and are eager to explore with you the possibilities.
Central Location Downtown
Situated on the Capitol Square in the shadow of the State Capitol building, Grace Episcopal Church is at the heart of downtown Madison. A historic fixture in the downtown neighborhood, Grace Episcopal Church is just steps from Lake Monona, the Monona Terrace, Overture Center, State Street, University of Wisconsin, as well as numerous reception venues, hotels and restaurants. Our central location provides the perfect photo opportunity to capture the essence of your downtown wedding.

Traditional Gothic Architecture
A celebrated historic landmark established in 1839, Grace Episcopal Church is the oldest church in Madison. Known for its grand Gothic architecture and distinctive red doors outside, your wedding guests will be wowed by the hand-carved woodwork, brilliant stained glass windows, including a Tiffany window, and cathedral organ inside. Grace can accommodate up to 350 guests for your elegant wedding. Our English style courtyard garden provides more opportunities for lovely outdoor photos. Next to the garden courtyard is the Memorial Guild Hall, with seating for up to 125 guests; the Guild Hall can host an intimate reception or rehearsal dinner. The magnificence, elegance and prestigious location on the Capitol Square makes Grace Episcopal Church the perfect setting for the traditional looking church wedding you’ve always dreamed of.
Who can get married at
Grace Episcopal Church?
Episcopalians
Grace Church is a member of the Milwaukee Diocese for the Episcopal Church. The Episcopal Church requires that all Episcopalians use the Episcopal order of service for weddings, participate in pre-marital counseling and that at least one of the parties be a baptized Christian. It is our desire that Grace Church be more than a wedding venue. We hope that it is, or will become, your spiritual home.
Sometimes, couples that are members of Episcopal churches in other parts of the country want to be married at Grace Church. In such cases, the clergy of Grace will happily cooperate with priests from other parishes to arrange for counseling and other logistical matters.
If you are interested in speaking with a clergy person about officiating your Episcopal wedding, please contact our Rector, The Reverend Dr. D. Jonathan Grieser, at togracechurchrector@gmail.com or 608.255.5147 ext. 21.
Non-Episcopalians
If you are not a member of Grace Church, or a member of another Episcopal Church, it is possible to rent Grace Church for your wedding. Many couples that rent the facilities at Grace Church do not have a home church or parish. They might live outside of Madison or are of different denominations and need a neutral location for their wedding. Grace Church allows you the flexibility to choose your own minister, priest or a judge to perform your ceremony. We can also provide names of people if you need help finding someone to officiate. You have the freedom to customize any style of ceremony, using whatever words and music you wish. We are happy to offer our experience and suggestions to help you create a unique and meaningful service.
